The past couple of weeks have brought a slew of Pokémon events at the PlaySpace. including our first ever VGC Tournament with the new game Pokémon Champions! I've been long looking forward to hosting VGC at the PlaySpace, and Pokémon Champions has made it easier than ever before to get into the competitive scene!
We hosted our first Pokémon Champions Tournament on July 12, and I was pleasantly surprised with how diverse the teams were. There's been a lot of discourse online that the format only has one good team, and I was really happy to see the local scene (as well as the competitive scene at NAIC) put that discourse to rest. We had a wide variety of Mega Evolutions present, with only one Mega Charizard Y and no Floette! Congrats to our Winner, Brady, with his speed control Mega Dragonite team!
Due to the success of this tournament and the demand for more, I'm stoked to announce that Just Press Play will be hosting a monthly Pokémon Champions Tournament, with our July Tournament being Friday, July 17th @ 6:00 pm!

Moving on to the card game, we hosted our Win-A-Box Tournament for Chaos Rising! Another wide variety of decks attempted to claim their place on top, and in the end, one of our regulars, Andrew R., took it all down with Mega Lucario! Andrew beat Robert M.'s Metang deck, which was really innovative. Definitely reminds me of the Mega Excadrill deck that we will get in Pitch Black! Big congrats to Stanley M. (3 top 4's in a row!!!) and Eric W. for rounding out our Top 4 with Dragapult / Blaziken and Team Rocket's Honchkrow respectively.
